American Girl just unveiled its 2023 Girl of the Year. Kavi Sharma loves singing show tunes and going to see Broadway shows, and learning Bollywood dances. She is also the first South-Asian girl to be highlighted as one of American Girl’s GOTY main characters.

Kavi lives in Metuchen, NJ, just a short train ride from her two favorite places in the world, New York City and Broadway. While she loves to perform she also deals with struggling to keep her off stage priorities in check. She not only needs to take care of friendships and family relationships, she needs to focus on her schoolwork because she has her eye on attending Princeton University in the future.

Kavi comes to life in a beautiful 18-inch doll featuring brown eyes, medium skin tone, and layered dark-brown hair styled in a high ponytail. The full product collection is filled with fun, show stopping outfits and accessories including her signature outfit which consists of a multicolored cropped mesh top, silver pants, and bright pink tennis shoes. You can finish off the look with Kavi’s faux-fur bucket hat and quilted purse.

American Girl collaborated with New York Times best-selling author Varsha Bajaj (“Thirst” and “Count Me In”) to bring Kavi’s story to readers. There is an illustrated paperback journal that accompanies each 18-inch doll and a hardcover novel, “It’s Showtime, Kavi,” that will be available later in 2023.

To support Kavi’s love of Broadway and performing, American Girl is partnering with the Broadway Education Alliance’s Camp Broadway with a $25,000 donation to fund full and partial scholarships for kids ages 7-14 participating in the camp’s summer programs in NYC.

“As we ring in a new year, we’re excited to have Kavi Sharma take center stage in our popular Girl of the Year lineup,” Jamie Cygielman, general manager of American Girl, said. “Just like all our beloved characters, Kavi’s culturally relevant and aspirational stories help inspire kids to shine bright in their own way and be proud of who they are.”
